Damian Cremisio is an accomplished tenor saxophonist. But he’s much more than that. In addition to playing the tenor sax, Damian plays soprano, alto and baritone saxes, flute, piccolo, clarinet and bass clarinet, as well as EWI (electric wind instrument). He is also a gifted vocalist.
During his career, which spans three decades, Damian has performed with well-known, popular recording artists such as Andy Williams, Petula Clark and Ann Margret. He’s performed at numerous venues (including the famous Calgary Stampede in Canada), and concerts throughout the United States, the United Kingdom and Asia. For several years, Damian led his own show group, “City Rhythms,” which enabled him to branch out on his own to showcase his own brand of jazz music.
In 2006, Damian formed The Damian Cremisio Quintet (DCQ), which recently played at the West Bank Café in New York City.
“This group is about music for the sake of the art,” says Damian explaining his reason for creating the quintet. “Sure, we’ll play the requisite show tune or jazz number, but we also perform original compositions. And that’s more what I’d like our group to be known for.”
While he enjoys performing in a pit orchestra as well as in concerts, Damian is equally at home sharing his musical expertise by teaching music or leading clinics and workshops in music theory and appreciation. He regularly performs with bands from the New York City area, including the FDR Drive Band.
